  Sex Ed questionnaire response 6

How did you first learn about sex?

  My Mother at age 10-11.

Do you feel the information you were given was adequate?

Yes, even more so. We went for long walks in the neighbourhood and she told me everything I needed or wanted to know.

What do you think of the quality of sex education today?

In primary school K -Yr. 7 there was no sex education what-so-ever and sex was never talked about by teachers. Then my fist term 11 weeks) of high school still nothing. I then got ill and did home school (students and teacher in a class together on the phone or radio) and the teacher was very explicit. Even though I knew it all already it was still good to hear it from someone else and the classes are small (about 5-6 people) we all were expected to answer questions and be involved in the dscussion. But I still have friends at the face to face shcool that still don't know much about sex at all.

Do you feel that the media's obsession with sex leaves nothing left for parents to teach their kids?

  No

Do you think that sexuality education should be treated differently for girls than it is for boys?

No, I think they should be treated equally and learn the same things. A girl should learn what changes a boy goes through and vice virsa.

Does the advertising of "women's sanitary products" on TV bother you?

Not at all it's a fact of life and ther'e still a business who want to sell a product.

How early, is too early to learn about sex?

There shouldn't be an age too early to learn about sex and there bodies, but it's not really necessary until about 9, 10 or even 11 just before puberty.

If you knew then what you know now, what would you do differently?

  nothing

If you had a teenage daughter and there was a book available which contained graphic information about female sexuality, orgasm, masturbation techniques - designed to teach them everything about their sexuality - while recommending the delaying experimentation with penetrative sex until of emotional maturity (and legal age) - would you let her read it? (please give reasons why)

Yes. Iwould still tell her myself what I know, but it's good to have references and extra info. Sex is a beautiful thing and it shouldn't be hidden away until the legal age and all sprung on her at once.

How did you first hear about exotic sexual practices such as fetishism and group sex?

  TV and books.

Do you feel that the increasingly mainstream reference to these things is a good thing? (ie: Threesomes and guy's facination with Lesbianism being a standard punch line on sitcoms these days).

I doen't bother me and there are all different types of sexual exploration.
