gynecologist review

  gynecologist review response 17
how old are you, and for how long have you been seeing your gynecologist?

I am 17, and I first went to see a gyno at the age of 15.

how did you find your first gynecologist? did your mother talk to you about it; did she take you to see hers?

My mom took me to her ob-gyn because I had a yeast infection.

do you feel comfortable to ask questions about your body, what you are experiencing, to discuss your sex-life?

My mom's gynecologist was very nice, and if I had had a sex life at that time, I might have been comfortable discussing it with her. My new gynecologist is very religious and her sermonizing makes it a bit difficult for me to be candid with her.

how often do you see your gynecologist? what does a regular exam consist of?

I've seen her once and my next visit is in three months. A regular exam consists of being poked in the breasts, having a plastic speculum inserted in me, and then enduring a lecture about my youth and immaturity.

would you recommend your gynecologist - why, or why not?

No, I would not. Frankly, I would think that someone who sees pregnant teens on a daily basis would be thrilled to have a patient requesting pills and trying to be responsible. This is not the case with my doctor.

what are all the factors that go into how you feel about your experience with your gyno?

does the reception and nursing staff play a role?

is there good reading material in the waiting room?

I want someone who will answer my questions, not judge me, and give me my pills. The nurses are more than happy to offer their (unwanted) opinions. The waiting room is pretty boring, actually.

is there something more you'd like to be getting from your gynecologist that you aren't?

  Yeah, warmth and compassion.

have you been treated for a disease or disorder? what was it? was it easily diagnosed? what treatment was prescribed, and was it successful?

When I was 15, I had a yeast infection and due to the horrible stench of it, it was very easily diagnosed. Fortunately, Miconazole cleared it right up.

this conversation makes me think....

That I wish I could get a new doctor.
