gynecologist review 15

  gynecologist review response 15
how old are you, and for how long have you been seeing your gynecologist?

28, been seeing my current gyn. for 4 years.

how did you find your first gynecologist? did your mother talk to you about it; did she take you to see hers?

I requested that she take me when I turned 18... and I saw hers.

do you feel comfortable to ask questions about your body, what you are experiencing, to discuss your sex-life?

No. Honestly I perfer to ask the really graphic questions on the internet or another anonymouse place, I don't want to ask him face to face... I'm very outgoing and social and honestly, I guess I worry that he'll think I'm a freak. People always say "they've heard it all", but I'm not so sure... I always have tons of random questions and I don't want to sound like a hypocondriac or a pervert or something.

how often do you see your gynecologist? what does a regular exam consist of?

Well, monthly for awhile since I've been pregnant 4 times in the last 4 years. Usually the pregnancy exams are just blood pressure and weight and stuff. Later in the pregnancy it's to check for cervical dialation, since my babies have all come early and FAST they monitor me pretty closely. When I'm not pregnant, it's the normal pap smear and breast exam.

would you recommend your gynecologist - why, or why not?

Yes and no. Yes because he always takes the time to talk to me in his office first. He is interested in my life (or makes me feel like he is, anyway!) and has delivered all of my kids, so he always asks me about them and my husband and stuff. No because I feel as if he doesn't explain things to me very well. I would like him to be a bit more proactive about educating me about my body and empowering me to know more about my gyn. health. I've heard of other doc's who will help you learn how to do kegels correctly, show you your cervix in the mirror, explain signs of fertility and stuff. My doc has like never done anything like that, and I want him to explain that stuff to me.... I have not asked him to, because I have sort of waited for him to address this stuff. Maybe he just doesn't offer up that kind of thing unless you express interest. Even though he is young, I feel like he's "seen it all" or busy or something. I feel like maybe I'd like someone who offered a little more hand-holding, I guess, and I want him to initiate it. I mean, it feels a little weird for me to just bust out talking about vaginas without him initiating it.

what are all the factors that go into how you feel about your experience with your gyno?

does the reception and nursing staff play a role?

is there good reading material in the waiting room?

For me, it's do I feel like a person to him, not just another patient. (i.e. Does he remember who I am when I come in for an appointment and I haven't seen him in awhile). Yes the nursing staff plays a role! If they are snotty or rude, that is the worst. I also DESPISE the paper gowns... I hope this doesn't sound too wierd but I seriously feel like they are inhumane. For pete's sake, spend the extra $ and get us some cloth gowns and get a laundry service! Especially when you are pregnant, you sweat right through paper things... as if you aren't already uncomfortable enough.

is there something more you'd like to be getting from your gynecologist that you aren't?

He'll talk about stuff if I bring it up-- we've talked about my sex life and stuff when I've initiated it. I just want him to, I'd feel less self consious.

have you been treated for a disease or disorder? what was it? was it easily diagnosed? what treatment was prescribed, and was it successful?

  No, knock on wood.

this conversation makes me think....

How weird it must be to be a gyn, they can't please everyone and read everyone's minds. And I wonder why on earth they would be interested in this kind of work.... I understand the delivering babies thing, but daily examining vaginas... weird. I wonder why. (I guess I am referring to my own gyn because I feel like he is so matter of fact, it's bizarre. I asked him why he is a gyn and he said because he gets to do surgery and deal mostly with healthy patients. Hmmm.)
