menstruation questionnaire

  menstruation questionnaire response 38

how old were you when you first got your period, what was it like, and what did you know about what to expect?

I was 12. I knew what to expect because my mom explained it all to me when I was 9. There was no pain, just a tiny bit of blook in my panties and when I wiped. I was scared because I was with my grandparents and I didn't want to tell my grandma. Luckily she didn't make a big deal about it and I survived it haha.

how did you feel about it, and who did you tell about it?

I felt a little sad and embarrassed. I told only my grandma at the time, and my mom had given her a pack of pads when I stayed with her in case I started. I felt all right since I knew girls in my class who had already started. I told my mom when I got home.

what menstrual product did you start with? how did you learn about it?

I started with pads. My mom bought them for me.

are you still using the same method to deal with the blood; what methods have you tried; which do you prefer and why?

Now I use plastic tampons. I rarely wear pads except maybe when it's winding down. I always wear a panty liner with the tampon.

do you experience cramps, bloating, soar breasts, get pimples...? - if you do, tell us about it, and also, what remedies do you use?

I get really bad pimples a few days before it starts. I get really bad abdominal cramps and lower back pain on the first day to the point of nausea. I use Midol which helps a little, but I find my period to be quite debilitating.

do you feel emotional changes relating to where you are in your menstrual cycle?
Yes, I am very much on an emotional rollercoaster. My poor boyfriend can't keep up with my moods!

how do the men in your life relate to your period, or periods in general?

My boyfriend is very understanding about it. He knows it is painful and has even gotten me Midol and tampons before. He does get a little discouraged when he's in the mood but that zone is restricted!!!

this conversation makes me think....

periods aren't a big deal. I wonder if birth control would help my cramps....
