how old were you when you first got your period, what was it like, and what did you know about what to expect?

i was 12, 3 months before turning 13. it was on st. pattys day (how lucky...) i saw a big red spot and freaked out. i didnt really know what to do. so being embarresed i went into my mom's bathroom and searched through the droors until i found the stash of pads. i sorta knew what to expect but i was nowhere near as prepared as i would like to have been. all i knew is that there was going to be blood and you use a pad.

how did you feel about it, and who did you tell about it?

i was really sad, i hated getting my period. i thought it was the end of the world. i cryed a lot. i was really depressed about the whole thing and the pad felt like a diper. i felt like a baby. but i didnt know it stopped i just thought blood would keep going out(soo thankful that it doesn't). my friend lauren had gotton her period a while back and so i told her, she got all exited, and tryed to cheer me up. but i never told my mom, she found out because the supply of pads was going down. till this day i dont think i have ever talked to her about my period. only my friends

what menstrual product did you start with? how did you learn about it?

pads. that was the only thing that i have heard of and in the (very uninformitive) sex ed. class we got to take home a pad.

are you still using the same method to deal with the blood; what methods have you tried; which do you prefer and why?

no way! i hate pads, there discusting, blood goes everywhere. and im always afraid that i will leak in public. i love tampons, there my life saver!! but unfortunatly I, being my paranoid self use pads at night so that i dont get TSS. plus im on the swim team so in general tampons are what i use

do you experience cramps, bloating, soar breasts, get pimples...? - if you do, tell us about it, and also, what remedies do you use?

ughhh...yea. unfortunatly. cramps hurt soo bad. i just want to lie down and sleep and do nothing the whole day. and my breasts get really soar and swollen and if anybody bumps into me it hurts. also i eat and eat and eat! mostly i end up eating chocolate

do you feel emotional changes relating to where you are in your menstrual cycle?
not as much as some but yes. i get cranky and i feel like everything is my fault. and i feel bad and one little thing will piss me off. and im really aware of myself so if i do something wrong im like "sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry" and there like "whatever! no prob"

how do the men in your life relate to your period, or periods in general?

no "men" really in my life. im only 14 and just started my period 2yrs ago. but my dad doesnt know(or at least i think he doesnt know). but i have some really good/close guy friends sometimes the subject of periods come up but mostly we talk more about pregnancy, abortion, sex, ect. but i know if any of my friends who were guys were my actuall boyfriends then i know i could trust them and they never abuse the fact that they know my cycle(like annoy me more when im PMSing)

this conversation makes me think....

that im glad to be a girl, but i still wish i didnt have to have a peirod(guys are so lucky)
