how old were you when you first got your period, what was it like, and what did you know about what to expect?

*I was 11 years old. *I remember feeling this intense urge to pee when I was coming home from school. As soon as I got home I ran to the bathroom and to my shock I saw blood on my undies. Deep inside I knew this was that "woman problem" I always heard my sisters talk about but never gave any mind to. Panicking, I scream for my mom to come to the bathroom. She took it rather normal (me being the 3rd daughter I guess she was used to it). * It was rather traumatic for me,. *I wasn't sure what to expect. I was a tomboy at the time and this was an awful realization of "girlyness" which I did not want to accept. I thought it meant I couldn't hang out with boys and had to start wearing pink and being all "dainty" and what-not. I hated it...

how did you feel about it, and who did you tell about it?

*I was a frightening experience. I didn't want to accept what was happening to me. I didn't like the idea of being a "senorita" and having to wear bras and leave behind my childhood. I didn't want to go to school until my period was completely gone but my mom only allowed me to stay for one day. I was so scared to go to school. I feared my classmates would know somehow and I was worried my pad would be visible through my jeans. * I only told my mom and she told EVERYONE... u_u

what menstrual product did you start with? how did you learn about it?

*I can't remember what brand I started using. I do remember it was a pad and it made me feel like I was wearing a diaper. *I use Always now-a-days. Thank goodness for thin w/wings.

are you still using the same method to deal with the blood; what methods have you tried; which do you prefer and why?

*To deal with the blood? Besides soap and water? ...I still use pads. *Never worn a tampon; don't feel comfortable about shoving foreign things "up there."

do you experience cramps, bloating, soar breasts, get pimples...? - if you do, tell us about it, and also, what remedies do you use?

*OH YES..Intense-wise my cramps vary in intensity. They usually are worst during the first couple of days and pretty tolerable after that. * I do break out on my face, roughly 2 pimples, swollen and soar breasts, Horrible bloating (probably water retention). I tend to get diarrhea too. * I usually just "ride-out" the symptoms. I may drink some random teas occasionally. Sometimes I do need Tylenol for the cramps but that's about it. *Oh! and I do feel like my libido goes up like crazy just before my period, sometimes during, and usually right after too. O_o

do you feel emotional changes relating to where you are in your menstrual cycle?
*I'd take cramps over bloating ANY DAY. The bloating makes me highly depressed because I feel unatractive and uncomfortable in my body. Other moodswings I experience are: Emotionally hypersensitive and highly irritable (or Bitchy, if you prefer ^_-) *A lot of the times the depression does interfere with school and work.

how do the men in your life relate to your period, or periods in general?

There is none at the moment. I am a virgin.

this conversation makes me think....

  ....um....about periods?....<_<
