how old were you when you first got your period, what was it like, and what did you know about what to expect?

It was 4 days after my 13th birthday. I was at the dentist office. After my teeth cleaning, I stood up an noticed that my underwear was sticky. I chalked it up to me sitting for so long in an upholstered dentist chair. I didn't think much of it. A couple of hours later, i went to the bathroom and saw a brown/black stain on my underwear. It confused the hell out of me.I thought I sat on something, but I couldn't understand how I managed to get it just on my underwear. It took a few minutes for me to realize that it was probably my period. I still wasn't convinced b/c what was in my underwear didn't look like blood and I didn't have cramps, nor was I in a bad mood. These were all things that I had been taught to expect. I put a maxi pad on, just in case. Later, when I checked there was a lot more blood. That finally sealedte deal for me.

how did you feel about it, and who did you tell about it?

I had been waiting for that day since I first learned about periods which was around the age of 8. However, when it finally happened, I wasn't all that excited. I told my best friend. That was it. My mom found out when she did laundry. She was very hurt that I didn't tell her.

what menstrual product did you start with? how did you learn about it?

Maxi pads. I learned about those when I first learned about menstruation.

are you still using the same method to deal with the blood; what methods have you tried; which do you prefer and why?

Yes I am, I occasionally use tampons, but I have trouble gettinjg them in all the way and they always seem to stop my period when I use them.

do you experience cramps, bloating, soar breasts, get pimples...? - if you do, tell us about it, and also, what remedies do you use?

It changes from month to month. Mostly I get migraines, pimples, fatigue, and I become overly-emotional. I also crave junk food and eat more than I usually do.

do you feel emotional changes relating to where you are in your menstrual cycle?
YES! I become extrememly crabby and depressed.

how do the men in your life relate to your period, or periods in general?

If I'm in a relationship, I will always try to end it during my period. I tend to take all my anger out on boyfriends and I'll want to nit pick everything about them. Hence, why I always try to end relationships. It's so bad that my boyfriends know that this is a sign of my period and generally laugh when I try to do this, asking "Are you on your peroiod?"

this conversation makes me think....

How many years that I've had to deal with this (It's been 11) and my upcoming period in 3 days.
