I must've heard of the vagina at some early point, but can't remember being "told about it."

When my friends and I first talked about vaginas...

We were about ten, knew virtually nothing of "real sex." We nicknamed the penis "Herman" and the vagina "Mathilda", and used to enjoy mentioning them around unsuspecting girls, and adults. One day, at a cub scout meeting, my friend whispered "Psst - my mother know who Mathilda is" (SHOCK and SHAME!).

The first time I saw/touched a vagina...

A baby sister came into our home when I was six. Watching my mom change her, I thought it was funny (and unfortunate) that girls just had two hineys instead of a little guy. (But I never touched her, of course - honest).
Later, when my girlfriend and I were learning about sex together, I found she enjoyed being touched VERY much. In those repressed times, she used to announce "Ooh, I'm going to be bad" as orgasm approached.

Since then my perception/experience of vaginas (changed/hasn't changed)...

My perception has changed vastly with the changing times and personal experience. Overcoming years of programming with busty icons in the media, my attention has shifted more to below the belt with each passing year. As a T-shirt I often wear proudly proclaims, "Pussy Rules" (and I'm thrilled by the common "thumbs-up" reaction this shirt provokes in most women who see it).

That it is hers; that she should not confuse her innermost feelings with the centuries of stigma associated with enjoying it; and to never forget its awesome power to change your life (regarding birth control).

Usually, I refer to "that thing" as a pussy. Depending on circumstances and context. The only other term I use is vagina - so many other nicknames seem disrespectful.
