vagina vérité® update: It's time to get the book out.
I've made a decision. It's time to get the book out.

To do this, I will be leaving my job as VP, Marketing at U.S. Balloon at the end of the year and taking a more systematic approach to getting vagina vérité® finished and published. This is a HUGE shift for me, a decision I have been working toward-preparing for-for a while.

DEC 31, I step both feet into my v-world.

THE PLAN is: with undivided focus and intention, and some help from you, by the end of February, I'll:
  • complete v-portrait photography
  • write the text
It's amazing how BIG making a decision can feel, and then when you do: all that nervous paralyzed anticipation collapses and integrates into you just putting  one  foot  in  front  of  the  other. Nice.

THANK YOU for being here for this [some of you have come a LONG way with me!].

Here we go!
Read on for some simple ways that you can help me get the book out.

filled with gratitude & energy,
- Alexandra

Spread the word: forward, post, invite: This will help me to complete v-portrait photography.

As many of you know, I am not pursuing a certain number of v-portraits for the book, but a feeling of we're all kinda sorta represented, and at this point, that means more:
This is not say that there is any vulva not welcome, wanted and integral to the project. vagina vérité® is for and about all of us! We are truly unique-everyone is invited to create a v-portrait.

The women who participate in this project may or may not be comfortable with their bodies. They range in age, experiences and lifestyle, and relationship with their vaginas, vulvas, bodies. The one thing they have in common is trusting me with their v-portraits.

My hope is that any woman who picks up the book will know that she is included, unique and valued. Because she is.

Spread the word: forward, post, invite:

forward this email - It includes or links to all of the info you need to introduce someone to vagina vérité®. Let everyone in your world know about this project and how they can be a part of it. You don't have to forward to someone who personally meets my criteria list above. Just forward to your people. Yes, you have people. And, so do your people-you see where I'm going with this. Please note that forwarding via the link at the bottom will NOT automatically add anyone to the mail list.

post or suggest places to post or people to email - I'll be researching online over the next weeks, looking for places to post my call for vv-participation. Where do you think I should post? I'm thinking women's orgs, art bulletin boards, health and quality of life orgs, social networking sites. Got any specific recommendations for me? Reply to this email to send me your ideas. They are all good. Really. Please don't assume that I would already know about this or that site or org. I may not have acted on it even if I do know.

I'll be posting on my Facebook page and tweeting. You can link to a web page of this email and post on your Facebook page. Here's the link:

invite/bring friends to view the v-portraits: SATURDAY, JAN 16 @ 2 - 5:30 pm - This is an opportunity to view the v-portraits, meet me, ask questions, tell me what you think - see for yourself.

The invitation will go out shortly. It's going to be at my place [mid-town Manhattan east side], where the v-portraits are installed on the living room walls. An open-house. Everyone is welcome. RSVP will be required.

Tell me what interests you about this project-This will help me with the introduction.

I envision the introduction text giving context to the work, by telling how the project came about and came together, and then leaving you to be with your perspective, experience, assumptions, questions, stories while you view the v-portraits for yourself.

My goal with vagina vérité® is to document this body part of us and by doing that, create a space for conversation. Hearing what you think helps me to get out of my head. It's you I want to reach with this work. vagina vérité® is about all of us. And, that's us women and men.

Tell me what interests you about this project by:
  • Replying to this email
  • Clicking here to respond anonymously
  • Suggesting new questionnaires. Are there topics not covered in the questionnaires I've posted so far? Tell me what interests you by replying to this email or responding anonymously here .
THANK YOU for your participation in all the ways that you've been of help to me.

Feel free to contact me about any aspect of this project.

Sincerely,
-Alexandra

artist statement, DEC 2009
...One day, out of the blue, a friend of mine asked me if I liked the way my vagina looked. Apropos nothing. Did I like the way my vagina looked?

As I answered, I realized that I had never really taken a good look at my vagina, and that, other than a bit of porn, I hadn't actually seen any other women's vaginas. Read on >>

about Alexandra Jacoby

A self-taught painter and photographer, Alexandra Jacoby is not a vagina expert. The vagina vérité® project was born out of a conversation with a friend about what their vaginas looked like, and how they compared to other vaginas. As there was no visual reference available, Jacoby set about creating vulva portraits.

Jacoby has made 90 vagina portraits to date and plans to publish a book of the images, and to exhibit widely. In between exhibitions, Jacoby has the v-portraits installed on her living room wall, welcomes viewers and holds salons.
