An invitation to women in NYC-area:

An unabashed exposition of the rarely seen diversity and beauty of the plain, ordinary (though still mysterious matter) of vaginas.

Since Sept. 2000, photographer Alexandra Jacoby has been capturing a glimpse of women’s most private selves. The project was born out of a conversation with a friend about what their vaginas looked like, and how they compared to other vaginas. It soon became clear that for unpaid, unscripted, undirected vaginas like theirs, there was no reference available. Jacoby set about documenting the endless variety of vaginas – a tribute to individuality among women.

yOur Exhibition - an unusual opportunity for women

The shots are close-ups. They are unretouched, no stylists, no details about the model to set the mood – just the elusive face of the average vagina in plain view – not that there is such a thing as an average vagina. According to Jacoby, ”Each is strikingly unique, and most of us have never had the opportunity to see just how interesting this personal and powerful part of us is.”

vagina vérité is a work-in-progress.
Jacoby welcomes participation, and plans to publish the vagina portraits in a book.

A preview exhibition will be on view at Smithfield, Monday, December 2nd. 6:30-9:30 pm
The preview is for women only and all women are invited.
Hors d'oeuvres will be served. Cash bar.
Smithfield is located at 115 Essex, between Rivington & Delancey. Take the F to Delancey
