For me, it signified finally doing something I had been
curious about for a long time.

what were
your expectations of what the experience would be like prior to losing
your virginity?

While
masturbating at age 14, I knew I would not be able to
wait for marriage to have intercourse. I came from a rather
uptight family, and we didn't talk about sex much, but I knew
from playing with myself that it would be fun and special and
I couldn't wait to experience it.

you, and was this the age when expected or intended to lose your virginity?

I was
15. Looking back (I'm 27 now) I guess I thought I
would have been a little older, but I just couldn't wait any
longer. I really wanted to know what sex was all about, on a
firsthand basis.

what did
it feel like? was there blood? did your partner know it was your first
time and did you talk about it before?

We were
kissing and fondling each other in my backyard, and I
had this strong, primal feeling that I really wanted to have
intercourse. He asked me where it felt best for him to touch
me, and I said, "Let's just do it here." He was nervous, but
agreed. We went behind my neighbour's shed where no one
could see us and I pulled down my shorts and underwear. He
wasn't fully hard at that point, because of being nervous, so
I rubbed the head of his penis a bit and he got hard really
fast. Then, he placed his penis between my legs, and pushed
himself into me. I was REALLY wet, so he slid in pretty
easily. Total ecstasy, feeling something inside of me,
moving in and out! It didn't last very long, he climaxed
pretty fast. I didn't climax, but I was having so much fun
that it didn't matter at all. He knew it was my first
time--it was for both of us. He was really nervous, as we
hadn't really talked about it before despite all the touching
we had done with each other. There was a lot of blood and it
hurt a bit, but in a good way. It hurt for a couple of days,
but every time I thought about the pain, I would smile
because I remembered why the pain was there. I have to say,
that first moment, of feeling a penis slide into me was
pretty incredible. I'm sure that had something to do with
all the anticipation. But the moment of penetration after a
long build-up is still one of my favourite feelings!

what did
your mother, family, friends tell you about losing your virginity...

My family
didn't talk much more than about the basic biology
of sex when I got "the talk" at a younger age. Nothing about
the pleasure and the fun. My mother said once, "I hop
you'll wait" (for marriage) but that was about it. None of
my close friends had lost their virginity yet, so it was more
of something to giggle about than really talk about
seriously. Most of my information came from books and
magazines.

your daughter about losing her virginity...

I would tell her that
it can be a wonderful experience if it
is with the right person and she feels ready for it. It is
her decision alone to make and no one else can make it for
her.
